Practical Leakage-Resilient Pseudorandom Objects with Minimum Public Randomness

چکیده
One of the main challenges in leakage-resilient cryptography is to obtain proofs of security against side-channel attacks, under realistic assumptions and for efficient constructions. In a recent work from CHES 2012, Faust et al. proposed new designs of stream ciphers and pseudorandom functions for this purpose. Yet, a remaining limitation of these constructions is that they require large amounts of public randomness to be proven leakage-resilient. In this paper, we show that tweaked designs with minimum randomness requirements can be proven leakageresilient in minicrypt. That is, either these constructions are secure, or we are able to construct public-key cryptographic primitives from symmetric-key building blocks and their leakage functions (which is very unlikely). Hence, our results improve the practical relevance of two important leakage-resilient pseudorandom objects.

Multi-location Leakage Resilient Cryptography
Understanding and modeling leakage in the context of cryptographic systems (connecting physical protection of keys and cryptographic operation) is an emerging area with many missing issues and hard to understand aspects. In this work we initiate the study of leakage out of cryptographic devices when the operation is inherently replicated in multiple locations. This setting (allowing the adversa...
متن کاملLeakage-Resilient Public-Key Encryption from Obfuscation
The literature on leakage-resilient cryptography contains various leakage models that provide different levels of security. In this work, we consider the bounded leakage and the continual leakage models. In the bounded leakage model (Akavia et al. – TCC 2009), it is assumed that there is a fixed upper bound L on the number of bits the attacker may leak on the secret key in the entire lifetime o...
متن کاملLeakage-Resilient Signatures
The strongest standard security notion for digital signature schemes is unforgeability under chosen message attacks. In practice, however, this notion can be insufficient due to “side-channel attacks” which exploit leakage of information about the secret internal state. In this work we put forward the notion of “leakage-resilient signatures,” which strengthens the standard security notion by gi...
متن کاملLeakage Resilient Cryptography in Practice
In this report, we are concerned with models to analyze the security of cryptographic algorithms against side-channel attacks. Our objectives are threefold. In a first part of the paper, we aim to survey a number of well known intuitions related to physical security and to connect them with more formal results in this area. For this purpose, we study the definition of leakage function introduce...
متن کاملOn Generic Constructions of Circularly-Secure, Leakage-Resilient Public-Key Encryption Schemes
We propose generic constructions of public-key encryption schemes, satisfying key-dependent message (KDM) security for projections and different forms of key-leakage resilience, from CPA-secure private-key encryption schemes with two main abstract properties: (1) a form of (additive) homomorphism with respect to both plaintexts and randomness, and (2) reproducibility, providing a means for reus...
